That first internship
I haven’t had any finance internship yet. What would be some relatively easy to get into entry level finance positions? My current goal is to get finance experience. Would greatly appreciate your advice and/or help!
Background: I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Finance. Did my Bachelors at a non-target in Economics, graduated with a 4/4 gpa. Some of my separators: Wrote an advanced paper on M&As under policy uncertainty, which was selected to be published by Dallas Federal Reserve student conference. Also helped one of my professors publish his book. About me: I am very good with details, know basic Excel, intermediate PowerPoint, basic python (can do some fin modeling with it), happy to learn new skills that’d be needed by the role.
Use your schools career services and reach out to alumni’s. I’m not sure for masters, but for undergrad the most common first internship will be at a search fund

I would recommend interning at a search fund. They’re always desperate for interns (most funds at least) so just blast out some emails and then feel out what they need an intern for. Ideally, try to find somewhere that will allow you to have significant responsibility rather than doing shit like data entry.
I was fortunate enough to intern at a fund that let me to build LBO models and do associate-level work. On the other hand, I have friends that literally just create spreadsheets with lists of M&A brokers.
