The World Beyond

You graduated with that econ/finance degree from a target, did your 2-3 year analyst stint, 2 years MBA, and did the 2-3 years PE associate gig. Now what?

"Traditional" Course

4 years undergrad 3 years analyst 2 years MBA 3 years PE

You're most likely 28-30 years old at this point. You've developed a solid set of skills and your marketability in today's job market is up there. You're prepared to take on a lot of things. The following are viable career tracks that pop in my head:

  • Continue going up the PE firm
  • Start your own company/fund
  • Go back at a higher rank at BBs
  • Corporate Development at F500 companies
  • Philanthropy/Passion Projects
  • Consulting (had a friend do this in CA, he's living the life)

I also have a friend who's doing international development for the NBA. Sounds like a sweet job.

I was wondering, after going through all this abuse and learning process, what do you guys want to do/doing right now? Learning obviously is a never-ending process but everyone must have had an end-goal or objective for working this hard.

Would love to hear thoughts.

For the kids who went Goldman to KKR to HBS, most typically people die immediately after because they have achieved all a human being can possibly achieve at that point

haha thanks for the laugh. Unfortunately that's the reality on this board.

I would either start my own company/fund. Or if I'm very loaded but still need to work a bit, I would do freelance consulting or something like that.
