This career path unrealistic?
3 years of consulting (Bain/McK) --> B-school --> 1 year of IBD --> PE?
I wouldn't mind replacing 2 years of IBD with 2 years of consulting. Is it much more difficult for IBD associates to break into PE than it is for IBD analysts, even with 3 years of consulting experience?
hmm...
You'd probably be better off with 3 years consulting --> 2 years PE --> MBA --> PE.
Takes a little longer but it is a lot less risky. It also avoids the post-MBA IBD trap.
If you went straight from consulting to PE, would you go in as an analyst or associate?
You'd be a pre-MBA associate. Some firms call this position "analyst" or just "associate", but it's all the same thing. Next rung up is post-MBA associate, which some firms call "associate" or "senior associate".
