Time / Project Management in Private Equity

Experienced PE monkeys,

How do you keep track of all the emails, to dos, asks, etc. for both M&A processes and managing portfolio cos?

Do you use any specialised tools (e.g. Asana) or approaches (e.g. Kanban)?

Looking for practical advice to improve productivity!

I’m using an Excel to track to dos, however this is not too efficient (moving deadlines, would like to assign emails to specific tasks etc)

Thanks!

Suggest moving to a todo list that can integrate with outlook. This consolidates emails and to do items in one location.

Also forcing yourself to get through quick items or things which are recent can help keep on top of to dos.

What is your tenure? If 2 years, then as you get more experience you’ll anticipate what needs to be done in a deal in advance which can help.

Honestly? I just flag emails that have things I need to do (comments from MD, random requests, last email chain w/ Someone so I know to follow up).

I also start the day by making a mental list of things to get done by the end of the day.

Might have a simple tracker with important milestones (bid deadline, etc), and obviously have a DD tracker to send to sell-side, but I’m so sick of internal workflow management bullshit, probably cuz my firm refuses to adopt any real tech. I just don’t care anymore
