I feel like for whatever reason (higher volume of deals, more diversity in transactions, more interaction with sponsors) the only product group I’ve seen land PE gigs are LF kids.

Anything is possible if you work / network / study hard enough
Don’t listen to the other guy. The issue with exiting to buyout from secondaries advisory is the inherent conflict of interest. If you’ve been diligencing large private equity firms and know non-public info about them, it makes it difficult for one of those firms to then hire you since you would be competing with other firms who have granted you access to that info.
