Transitioning from Growth Equity to Buy-Out PE Fund
Hello everyone,
I'm considering a transition into a growth equity role with a leading firm in Toronto, specializing in minority equity transactions across diverse sectors. My ultimate goal is to move into a traditional mid-market buy-out fund in private equity.
I've heard concerns that working within growth equity investing might make me less competitive for transitioning into a traditional buy-out fund as the growth equity role may not offer the traditional 'operating' experience associated with control transactions and majority ownership.
Could anyone advise on the potential career implications of starting in growth equity when aiming to transition into buy-outs? Additionally, what would be a reasonable timeframe to gain the necessary competitive edge for mid-market buy-out roles?
Thank you for your insights
