It will be contested, but I think he successfully closes the tax treatment (interesting that Kushner isn't able to convince him to lay off).
That said, I don’t see why funds couldn’t create a new structure that does more / less the same thing (i.e., a pool of profits interests that vests based on performance above a hurdle rate).
Overall, it likely causes pain for existing funds / investments but long term, the market will simply adjust as it always does.
