OP here. The trip is for a pretty important wedding… any thoughts on when on cycle is gonna be? Know it’s impossible to tell but is there like a 3 week range?

I recruited and landed an offer just after Covid when everything was still largely virtual while on vacation in Hawaii. A little different situation but it was brutal due to the time difference. The HH was aware but I don’t think the firm I interviewed with was. Hardest part was having to turn around the model test. Thankfully by this part of the trip (visited multiple islands) I was at least in Honolulu and was able to buy a cheap monitor and keyboard to use at my resort.

Go on the trip. Oncycle will be happening in late August. You can't go early than the next year decide to go a month later. The headhunters are more prepared than last year so they will be pushing their clients to go because if you're not first you're last. HOWEVER..

1. More candidates than ever are sitting out of on-cycle (this is your advantage)

2. You can still participate when you get back. The only actual funds that essentially do "on-cycle" within a day or so are MFs. When you get back I guarantee you that "on-cycle" will still be happening and plenty of opportunities will still be available throughout September and October.

3. On-cycle is for 2025, so if you're currently in your first year and looking at 2024 opportunities, work with a headhunter to see what those are since firms are recruiting now and likely may stop their search to not coincide with 2025 on-cycle
