Vista Equity Partners as Non-Target Freshman

I'm a freshman at UIUC, with a good gpa and solid extracirriculars. I am planning on doing some type of finance internship my sophomore year, but I really want to know whether or not I can recruit for a firm like Vista right out of undergrad. What should I do in particular, what are the hours and salaries like at a firm like vista, and what should I do right now to prepare for a career in GE, PE, or IB?

Buddy, you're a freshman, don't. Worry about this when you're a junior/senior and actually qualify to apply after you've had an internship or two. You're not going to gain an edge starting this early, the testing they take you through is all standardized. You're asking for info that's readily available across a dozen+ threads or Glassdoor (e.g. salary, hours) and recruiting for GE is not the same as IB/PE. You're way too early and don't know what you want, and that's OK.

Thanks for the advice! It is always a little scary because most of my professors are always telling us to start studying technicals ASAP, since we are not a target. But I will take what you have said in mind.

Technicals for sure you should know for just about anything in finance. They're the bare minimum for being qualified and to show you can develop a general understanding of what's going to be happening on the job. On that note I'd say they're right and it's a good idea to quiz yourself, but just breaking out excel and building some practice models/studying flash cards will cover your bases.

I empathize with the added pressure having come from a non-target. For what it's worth, I didn't even get into IB from undergrad but now I'm interviewing for a senior role with a MF so just know there's hope! Career paths are rarely as linear as you envision them during undergrad. When I was a freshman I didn't know anything about finance so in that regard you're ahead of the curve of many already.

I mean try to find any alums in finance that you can, never know who they might know. When I was in undergrad I added like 200+ people I didn't know and who weren't alums just at random saying I was a student interested in their field and asking for an info chat. Easily got like 30%+ replies and coffee chats, people are often willing to help. If you ever get invited out to drink, unless you're legal, don't drink alcohol, and when you are legal limit yourself to 1 drink then water/soda/tea unless the guy you're meeting with is trying to bro-down (still avoid getting sloppy).

What does this even mean???? Go to Vista's LinkedIn page, search for analysts and study their backgrounds. Understand what internships they did prior, what activities/case comps they took part in, maybe even ask a few for a coffee chat. What does premium have to do with anything?
