Acquisitions Analyst Recruiting

Hey guys, so I’m heading into my junior year of college and I would love to get an acquisitions analyst role at a REPE firm. Is this an unreasonable pursuit? I’m currently doing modeling courses and learning as much as I can about the industry through this app, youtube, and networking calls. I’m also a student-athlete at a target school. Please give your honest opinion as I know traditional PE roles are essentially impossible to achieve right after undergrad.

It’s Good to have aspirational goals. Focus on the process, which it sounds like you’re doing.  Network, learn, study, have goals. Understand that life isn’t a straight upward shot. But if you focus on doing the right stuff, being knowledgeable and being an asset to companies, I have no doubt you’ll land where you want to- or maybe you’ll find something you enjoy more!
Can I say I know you’ll land where you want right out of school? No. Is it out of the cards? Definitely not.

For context went to t-30 undergad school with very average grades and 0 internship experience heading into junior year, and no connections. Had no idea what I wanted to do. Found myself in your spot. Applied to 400+ internships for junior summer, and landed an offer a REIT doing acquisitions with 4 months left before the summer. I then leveraged that role for an acquisitions analyst role at a 25B+ AUM REPE. Not at a BX or Starwood, but a reputable shop where I’m learning a ton. If you put the work in and grind your ass off it’s absolutely possible. Network and people will remember you when roles pop up and put you forward to at least a first round. That being said I was blessed with a better job market, but if you’re open to temporarily relocating and taking what you can get you’ll get where you want, there are certainly still jobs out there.

Hey it is definitely possible. I am similar to you in that I was a student athlete at a target school and actually just graduated about to start as an acquisitions analyst. I interned for one of the alumni my junior summer at a development shop who then referred me to a smaller REPE 6B+ AUM that he used to work at and I got the job. The biggest thing is networking with people in places that you want to be. You will need an internship your junior summer though. Definitely possible, Good Luck!
