Analyst Pay at REITs

I am curious what the first-year analyst pay looks like at some of the major REITs (think Vornado, Simon, Prologis, WP Carey, etc.) Does some of the pay tend to come in stock options at REITs? Also, if anyone has any input on starting a real estate career at a REIT vs. other REOCs and investment managers would love to hear.

Don't have any figures, but aside from places like sl green and vornado, REITs usually don't pay as well as your typical investment manager, or pe fund.

I'd assume analyst pay for the top shops you mentioned is somewhere between 85-110 base + 10-50% bonus. Unfortunately, like everything in real estate, it really just depends…

I don’t think it will make too big of a difference in the long run whether you start your career at a reit, reoc, or fund; as long as the role is transaction-based.

Yeah fair points just was curious if there is typically a big difference from REITs to the IM firms. When you say "as long as the role is transaction-based," do you think it matters a lot whether you start out in acquisitions vs. asset management?

Acquisitions is probably more coveted and more lucrative but AM is still front-office, more stable, and still a great starting point.

Furthermore, when I say transaction based, I’m referring to these typical front office RE gigs such as acq., AM, lending, brokerage as opposed to accounting, reporting, servicing, etc.. As a starting point, it’s always better to be as close to the money and/or the “deal team” as possible.

Depends on the REIT and on the position. You will likely make more in acquisitions, but asset management is a good starting point if you are trying to break into the industry and move into something like acquisitions.

Started at 65K + 10% bonus out of college as an AM analyst at a B-class REIT but that was several years ago. A lot has changed since then and comp has likely increased.

What percent of base is the bonus typically at a REIT for an analyst? I was recently offered25% bonus with slightly less than half of that as stock options. Is that market?
