Career Transition From Appraisal to Asset Management
I’ve spent almost my entire CRE career working as an appraiser at a medium-sized firm specializing in a niche property type.
I’m burned out on the appraisal field and am looking to make a change within the CRE industry. I occasionally meet with asset managers during property inspections and an interested applying for asset management roles, but I’m not sure if I should be applying for analyst or associate level positions.
I’ve been working in appraisal for close to nine years and feel like most analyst level roles are targeting people with two to three years experience, but I seem to be missing a lot of the skills needed for associate level positions due to appraisal’s limited focus.
Can anyone prove some insight on what I should be targeting? I appreciate all help!
Look for associate positions at smaller (sub-$3b AUM) firms. Analyst at 9 YOE doesn't make sense for anyone. Also look at acquisition and property management roles to get in at different angles if you're getting stuck.
