Dallas vs. Atlanta
Currently trying to decide between an opportunity in Dallas or Atlanta. Without taking the employers into consideration, which one would you choose and why?

Career Resources
Can you provide more details - what type of role, level, long term career aspirations (if known), etc.?

Obviously biased because I'm in Atlanta, but I spent a week in Dallas last year and liked it also. Best brisket I ever had in my life. I know you say "without taking the employers into consideration" but it really might come down to that. Both are major southern cities with a lot to do and a lot of fun to be had.

Best brisket and best Tex-Mex. These two things together make Dallas hard to beat!
-SD
Wait until you visit Austin. Beats on both accounts.
I lived in Atlanta and didn't like it. No real city feel.
Odd. That is my main complaint about Dallas. After 5/6pm the city was absolutely dead.
I feel this is true of many cities after 6:00 pm or so on weeknights.
Downtown Dallas is pretty terrible, Uptown, Deep Ellum, and Greenville are the places to be.
I'd choose Dallas. Pecan Lodge is the shit, Tex-Mex is killer too, and the weather is much better imo (Dallas isn't as humid as Atlanta). You can also go to Austin and New Orleans every so often, but Atlanta also has access to Florida and South Carolina which are great so don't discount that. Not sure about Atlanta, but Texas in general as a pretty low cost of living (no income tax either).
Dallas and Atlanta are actually very similar cities and markets. You can't really go wrong from a macroeconomics standpoint on either one. If you're choosing between opportunities in either market, I'd just drill down to the sub-market level and current positioning of each asset. The metros are practically apples to apples.
Being a multifamily developer, the apartment market fundamentals are significantly different in Dallas vs. Atlanta. Moreover, if you look at top development shops, there are a number either launched or headquartered in Dallas - Trammell Crow, Mill Creek, Lincoln, JPI, etc. I don't think this is by coincidence.
-SD
Part of that is just the number of Trammell Crow alums that stuck around (i.e. every company named was started by or is headed by an old TC guy)... so it kind of is by coincidence.
That said, I like both cities and you can't go wrong. I'm biased towards Atlanta, but I've covered DFW for years and think it's a great spot; just not for me.
You know what I'm gonna say bro.... Texas baby!!!!!
