Colliers Securities focuses on corporate level transactions and would be what you're looking for... Seems like Colliers picked up an M&A team/company sometime in the past. I know a lot of the other big brokerages (JLL/CBRE) have true M&A teams but all of this is personally out of my realm so maybe others have more insight to this. Anything with Colliers Capital markets would be asset level debt/equity placement or investment sales. Also Colliers International is the company as a whole but was rebranded to just Colliers sometime in the past few years.
Not sure why the brokerages (other than Eastdil) bother with investment banking. I’m at a pretty large REIT/REPE and we use traditional BB/EB and have never even considered using a brokerage as a banker. I’d be willing to bet no firms with over $10b AUM do either.
Are they fishing for smaller clients or what is the deal there?
Depends on the country. From what I've seen Capital markets is large institutional sales and portfolio sales. Colliers International is the standard brokerage line, they can also do large institutional sales but not their focus (although there are brokers that focus only on that). They're 2 dif biz lines.

Yep, rogain18 got it right. They acquired this firm called Dougherty & Company back in the 2010s I think.
OP - I have a friend who worked there (D&C / Colliers Securities) for a couple years if you want more intel on that side.
