IB to REPE

I'm a 1st yr. analyst in a top group at a BB (JPM/ MS/ GS) exploring my post-banking opportunities. Don't waste your time giving me shit about being only a few months on the desk, go take a look at any random handful of MF PE associates who did their two years (on rare occasion less) and left. I am aware that studying for traditional corp PE takes work to recruit and pay can easily be 200K+, but rather focus on landing a REPE role. I've chatted with more than a handful of people who are at the end of their PE assoc. years or went the IB ->PE->MBA->PE VP / senior Assoc. route; in addition to looking at the lives of my associates & senior team. I don't want their seats.

I'm interested in getting into RE to learn more about the industry and gain an investing skillset that I believe I could use for life at various deal sizes. I realize that my experience may not tie directly to an RE role, even acquisitions so what role makes the most sense? I would like to be on a team that focuses on retail or mixed use resi / retail deals that has joint AM / Acquisitions roles. Having BB experience, I don't care about prestige (nor ever have, but doesn't hurt), so what firms make sense? The PERE 100 is a good guide, but it may not be exhaustive.  I don't mind banking hours, but don't want a pay cut or to lay stagnant in a top heavy firm. What firms would be best for comp and learning about retail REPE?

TLDR; considering leaving BB IBD after my first year for REPE, what shops offer great comp/learning experience buying retail or resid./retail assets with opportunity to grow in responsibility/pay/role? If knowledgeable, what does comp / recruiting look like (bonus structure, on-cycle, off-cycle, through direct connection, etc.)?
