Is it easy to transition from office to another property type?

Considering making the switch from office to multi family. Have both debt and equity experience. Used to be at generalist lender to start career, and have now been at office repe for a few years.

"Easy" is relative. Is it as simple as it should be, given that real estate is real estate no matter what the product type with minimal nuance that you can learn in a couple months? No. Every single person will ask you why you are making the change and question the change you are making. Is it an insurmountable obstacle that you cannot overcome unless you win the lottery? Also no. You can always make the change.

Come up with a good story (shouldn't be difficult given the office market right now...) as to why you want to make the change and network your ass off. You can do it.

At what level? As an analyst / associate I think it's no problem. At the end of the day, modeling is modeling with a few different tweaks, and really office modeling is more difficult than multifamily or industrial.

At VP level it's more difficult. Many hiring for VP's want someone with a network and closing experience in their product type. Most common I see though is office going to industrial.
