Moving into Real Estate

Hey guys,

A bit of a random question here, but I'm currently an analyst at a bulge bracket bank (BOA, JPM, Citi, etc.). Not in IB or Trading, but another client-facing role that is more tech focused.

I definitely don't hate this area, but I am becoming really interested in Real Estate investing. Since there is really no crossover between what I do now and RE, what would be a good way of trying to break into RE? Would it be advisable to network within my bank's AM arm to try to do another analyst stint? Or are there better firms to start out with for RE?

Any advice appreciated!

So, are you meaning you are interested in like buying/renting/rehabbing houses (like the stuff they talk about on Bigger Pockets), or actual institutional/commercial real estate? I ask given the second sentence, as there are literally tons of crossover with CRE at all the banks you list (it's just another industry/coverage area...). Replace "revenues" with "rents" and you are like 90% of the way there....

Either way, if you want to work in buyside institutional real estate (what I guess you mean in context), then yes... apply for analyst/associate roles (best entry point, may be a "lateral" but that is common on sellside to buyside jumps), this banking exp. should help for sure (I'm guessing you are on the commercial bank side of the BB?).
