Project Finance/Infrastructure in DC
Other than Carlyle (not sure if their infra team sits out of DC), are there any other project finance lenders or infra sponsors with offices in the DC metro area, or this something that's largely limited to New York?
Hey BubbaBanker, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I'm here since nobody responded to your topic! Bummer...could just be unlucky but one of these topics will help shed some light:
You're welcome.
Bump
what do you mean by infra sponsor, i'm not familiar with that term. happy to help though.
I meant firms like PE firms that specialize in infra.
Try checking out the sponsor list on Inframation, might help. But most will indeed be out of NY.
How can I see the list, looks like it's subscription if I'm looking at the right thing.
Does it have a free trial/month? Otherwise, based on lists (google something like top 50 infrastructure private equity funds), none are based there, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t have offices. Have you looked in NY? I know of a couple of places that are currently looking for candidates. PM if you wish.

World Bank/IFC, OPIC, maybe US EXIM
I'm in the process for the first 2. Didn't think of the last 2, thanks for the suggestion.
world bank/IFC is so toxic, why would you want to work there
The only good thing about world bank/IFC is their entry level pay and benefits
IFC's investment analyst position, from what I understand, is a ~2 year thing. I was thinking of doing that and going to grad school. Do you think that would be a good idea?
yes, I think so
I know so many people from wb/ifc, they tend to only hire full time from the best elite universities. It’s a good place to start with a very high starting salary
Yeah that's what I was thinking after looking up some people there. Thanks.

Is it really that toxic?
Great pay for entry level but that it, the mid- and senior- level pay are capped just like the federal government
Very difficult to advance, a lot of politics, most of the time promotion is based on quota (your nationality)
Benefit is declining, they used to pay for international business class flights for employee vacation, and again being American you do not get to enjoy those perks anyway
They pretty much stopped hiring full time years ago. They rely heavily on thousands of short term contractors. You need to have super strong background (Yale/Chicago/MIT Econ phd, interned at fed) to be considered for full time role
The only good thing about IFC is they pay your kids tuition. My neighbor sends her kids to Potomac school and she works at IFC
There are some advisory firms, like IMG Rebel, Delphos, and Astris. Delphos does a lot of OPIC business. Each of them has different characteristics, like some focus on toll-roads, some do energy-oriented.
