I've been to many. Worth it? Depends.

1) Is there a speaker or topic that you're particularly interested in?

2) Are you new to a city and hoping to meet some new people?

3) Are you promoting a new product or trying to expand your RE related business?

Ehh...this event in particular seems more geared towards brokers trying to get market intel, elevator pitch deals, meet owners. I've never found them helpful when on the job market - the people you briefly meet will see no value in you and forget your name. I would argue that cold emailing/calling on a tuesday morning is much more effective in showing interest and getting your resume seen. This has been my experience, but I am sure other can attest to having some productive face-to-face talks over cocktails with potential employers. I mean you never know - you can find yourself waking up at 5:00 am in a principal's office knee-deep in dead hookers not knowing what happened, that's when you ask for the job.

In general - yes. I'm a huge fan of ULI events. It really comes down to the organization though. I've never attended anything Biznow puts on.

I'll echo this, and add that Bisnow stuff is better if you are already have a job. I'm usually at bisnow stuff to hear a specific person or learn about a specific topic, there just happens to be an hour or so on either end where I catch up with people I know and maybe meet one or two of their buddies, so not as focused on networking. Maybe it would be useful if you had a friend in the industry to go with to introduce you to people.

ULI is huge for networking. Everyone that is trying to get into RE should be a member of that organization. Given, there may be some weaker local/district ULI groups, I am assuming they mostly all follow a similar model. I am in a Tier 2 or 3 type of market and our ULI group is rock solid. Tons of networking events, great speakers, tours of new/uc developments, etc. If you are under 35, joining their Young Leaders Group is a pretty solid way to meet a bunch of folks in the business. They put on happy hours all the time, and have pretty easy going no-pressure events that you can network at. Here you don't even actually need to be a ULI member to attend these, you can just say you're interested in joining when you register and show up.

NAIOP is another good organization that you will find all over the place that puts on solid events.

Between these two organizations you should be able to easily find events that will set you up to meet all sorts of people working at the companies you want to be at. Can't stress enough that talking to people is your easiest way into this field. People talk about cold emailing MDs, calling hiring managers, etc. That stuff works too but imo it's a lot easier to strike up a conversation with a dude right in front of you who is drinking a beer you also like. He might not be the hiring manager at XYZ RE Fund but I'm sure if he likes you he can find a way to get your resume to the person who is!
