Career Resources
Yes. Any top investment sales team in a large city will be great experience for REPE whether you end up doing acquisitions, AM or portfolio management. You'll have a lot of recruiters reaching out by around the 1-2 year mark.
Thanks for the response I was worried that Miami may have worse exit ops than say then the NYC office but didn't want to take a chance applying to that office as well if the gap wasn't to large, and your saying the recruiters will come to me at the 1-2 year mark I won't have to send out my own applications first?
Whether you work in NY, Miami, LA, ATL, or even Ohio, recruiters may come to you, they may not. Either way, you’re still going to have to network and apply to jobs yourself plus use recruiters to get the next job. In Miami, you’ll get great experience and be able to get any job you want. It’s always about putting in some shoe leather to get that next job and activate your network. Sometimes it’ll fall into your lap. But other times it won’t. Brokerage is an awesome starting point because it allows you to meet tons of buyers and sellers which expands your personal network. You than get to tap that network for your next job. Don’t depend on recruiters but use them to help you see opportunities you may not otherwise find. Many firms in the industry hire via their network and never post the job.
If you wait for recruiters to come to you, you’ll find a job. But that’ll be dependent on where the wind takes you. If you take charge of your search, more factors will be in your control. Many recruiters are good - but many will tell you an opportunity is amazing so you take the job and they get paid. Next thing you find out the job ain’t so great. Always make sure to be in as much control as possible for your search-it’s your career, not theirs.
Are firms like Brookfield, Blackstone, Starwood out of reach without IB experience or could one lateral to them or other top ten firms from brokerage, and networking
No they are not.
Thanks for the feedback
