Superday Prep

Currently in the process at a couple of REPE shops (FT roles)  - some of which I have a Superday coming up. Curious to hear how you guys prep for Superdays weeks in advance and any resources you guys use to stay sharp - Cheers.

For prepping for Superdays at REPE shops, here’s a structured approach based on the most helpful WSO content:

1. Weeks in Advance: Build a Strong Foundation

  • Technical Skills: Brush up on your real estate financial modeling. Expect modeling tests that focus on multifamily homes, warehouses, or corporate offices. These tests are typically 1-2 hours long, so practice being quick and accurate in Excel.
  • Market Knowledge: Stay updated on the real estate market. Research asset classes, macroeconomic trends, and current events impacting the industry. Senior interviewers often focus on market discussions rather than technical questions.
  • Networking Insights: Leverage your network to understand what specific firms value in candidates. Use LinkedIn or informational calls to gather insights about the culture and expectations of the REPE shops you're targeting.

2. Resources to Use

  • WSO Real Estate Master Program: This includes 12 courses covering RE modeling and other essential skills.
  • Mock Interviews: Practice behavioral and technical questions with professionals or peers. WSO offers mock interview services that can help simulate the Superday environment.
  • Templates: Use WSO’s Private Equity Resume Template and Stock Pitch Template to refine your materials and pitches.

3. Key Areas to Focus On

  • Behavioral Questions: Prepare answers for common questions like "Why real estate private equity?" or "How do you stay updated on the RE market?".
  • Deal Knowledge: If you’ve worked on deals, know them inside out. Be ready to discuss the rationale, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Case Studies: Practice case studies and modeling tests. These are often straightforward but require speed and accuracy.

4. Final Week: Sharpen Your Edge

  • Mock Superday: Simulate the entire process, including multiple interviews back-to-back.
  • Review Notes: Go over your notes on market trends, technical concepts, and firm-specific insights.
  • Rest and Prepare: Ensure you’re well-rested and confident heading into the Superday.

Good luck! Crush it like a pro!

Oh man Superdays....So glad I'll never do those again. I think just be yourself and think through your responses, read up on the company so they know you researched and ask relatable questions but not ones that seem like you are sucking up. Ask genuine questions you are curious about the culture and upward progression. If you are doing super days you should only be concerned about upward mobility, they know this. If they don't like your questions and answers its not the right shop, you'll be in the bullpen/trenches and if they don't like your personality and it's not a fit working those 50-65 hours is going to F'ing suckkkkkkkk.
