Switching to affordable development worth it? or does it pigeonhole you?

Upcoming interview for a MF Dev associate.. sounds like exactly the experience I'm hoping to get but with a mostly-affordable developer. I'm not sure I will get many opportunities otherwise in the current job market so I want to take it seriously, but can't stop wondering if it's a long-term bad move if I don't want to be stuck in the affordable space? Is it common to switch back to market/luxury after doing all affordable? Is the pay significantly worse?

Depends on the type of projects. If it’s section 8 or something it’ll probably pigeonhole you, but if it’s a NYC luxury building where 10-20% of the building is affordable and you fill them through the housing lottery it won’t pigeonhole you for other Multifamily development shops. But it will pigeonhole you from going to a generalist shop or a different specialized developer (industrial, office, etc)
