Toronto RE Job Market

Trying to understand what is going on in the job market and the employers I recently interviewed with two groups and this is how they went. As an Fyi, I'm at Director / VP of Investments level at a developer.

Employer A - Senior Associate (Investment) - Role focused on debt / equity. Met with a SVP (direct report) and head of HR. I would like to think it went really well as they said my profile and attitude is in line with culture and gave me a office tour as a "sales pitch" as the SVP put it.

Employer B - Director / VP of Investments - lateral move. Met with the CEO on zoom who then asked to meet the broader team the following week. Scheduled for one hour and went over to 1.5 hours. Recruiter got the feedback that they really liked me and next steps would be a discussion in person or virtual to discuss comp structure. It's been over a week and the recruiter and the employer have gone silent.

In both instances I'm stuck wondering what went wrong or how I could've better positioned myself. Anyone else been through something similar?

same thing happened to my friend, met 3 MDs then later got ghosted. I later learned that the whole department or bank was on hiring freeze until Sept so its not entirely the candidate's fault.
