What's a better internship experience: REIT or Developer?

I'm trying to decide, as someone who wants to eventually get into RE Acquisitions, if I should try for an internship with an REIT or a Developer?

If you wanna do acquisitions, keep your story straight, do acquisitions. Could be a REIT, REPE fund, pension fund, lifeco.
But wouldn't hurt to cast a wide net and if you somehow end up at a developer instead, it's not a bad education if you'd like to do acquisitions later on. Not a huge deal, people move around over the years.
Thanks for the info propsie, I always see you on the RE threads and your answers are great. I recently met a company rep (massive international company) who's recruiting interns for debt strategy in commercial real estate. Is this some weird pigeon hole sector within real estate finance? I'm love to know your opinion on it.
The guy said they dont do acquisitions they sorta provide the money for people who do acquisitions and loans. His department is called Debt Strategy for commercial RE.
I’m assuming you’re referencing Debt Brokerage. This area works with capital providers (Banks, Insurance companies, investment funds) to match up that available debt to borrowers. It’s a lucrative field and an internship would expose you probably to the analytical side of this, which is good because you get to look at investments with a more critical eye. Later on that experience could be helpful with acquisitions.
Thanks for the info!
