Which department has the best exit ops in a CRE services firm?

Which department has the best exit ops in a CRE services firm (think JLL, CBRE, Colliers)?

I have started a 2-year analyst programme for one of the biggest CRE firms in the world. During my first-year I will work in valuation/advisory. In which department should I work during my second-year in order to maximize my exit ops?

I would like to (in 3/4 years) secure a gig in acquisitions at a REPE or at a REIT - is it too ambitious?

Thank you!

It totally depends on what you want to do. If you want to do Asset Management or leasing work at a developer, etc., work in leasing. If you want to do acquisitions, work in valuations / appraisals, investment sales or debt / equity brokerage as an analyst. Try not to do a brokerage position if you won't get modeling experience. Since you already are doing valuations, try to do an analyst stint in investment sales or debt / equity brokerage, preferably with institutional owners / operators.

Thanks for the in-depth answer!

What about working for my firm's own fund ( think La Salle Investments or CBRE Global Investors)? I am assuming that that would be amazing in terms of exit ops, especially acquisitions, or not?

PS: I would give you a banana but I don't have any left.
