Any chance breaking into IBD?

Do I have any chance to break into IBD? I have sent my resume out a lot, but still no luck. I don't know what I do wrong here.

Thank you so much in advance!

daretynetwork, network, network. best bet is boutiques but it will be very hard. why the massive gap between 2007 and 2011?

The huge gap is because firstly I came to USA to go to language school, get ready for GMAT and then traveling around (I know it does not sound that good).

Hah, to be honest, sounds like you added more value to our economy during those years than many Wall Streeters did.

Smells like a troll to me.

I really need help, and I don't understand what you are trying to say.

Oh. I'm sorry.

But I can't help you. I don't mean to be impolite, just being honest: there isn't much to work with here. If I were you, I'd refocus my energy on something other than US-based IBD.

heytaeAnd also, should I add interests section?

Uh, sure, if you want to. But I don't think that there's anything you can do to this resume that'll get you into IBD. The problem isn't with the format, or the lack of an interests section, or how you spun your work experience. The problem isn't with the resume at all.

The forecast is not good.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

Hmmmm, how about do I have chance of landing a decent finance job in US at all? I know I have a huge gap in my resume, and a non target school MBA. But I do have a real IBD experience from Thailand (just hope that someone cares).

Help me help you. What does IBD mean to you?

For me, IBD is division that help clients in financing, which can be done by issuing securities or lending. In the department is consist of many teams such as origination, product, industry team, syndication, ECM, DCM, M&A, S&T etc.

SirTradesaLotIf being in the US is the most important and you are having trouble finding ibd jobs, do you think you should look for alternatives?

Jesus, dude. Anybody ever tell you what a good fucking Samaritan you are?

As Lloyd says, it's God's work.

SirTradesaLotIf being in the US is the most important and you are having trouble finding ibd jobs, do you think you should look for alternatives?

Yes, I think I should and I do. I am also looking for other finance jobs. I would love to learn more about finance, hedge funds and private equity are very interesting for me. I am not sure if it will be even harder for me than finding an IBD jobs, because I don't have any direct experience. I also do not mind doing financial analyst/research job, just to get my foot in the door.

Well, financial analyst and research aren't necessarily the easiest to get. Those are not usually considered foot in the door type jobs.

How would you manage the risk in a negatively convex bond position?

Have you ever thought of calling these places rather than sending your resume online?

Here's the problem: you are looking for the help of an expert. Unfortunately, I don't think anybody here has the expertise to figure out how to get someone with your background into IBD. You will be creating your own path.

Thank you so much for your input. I never really calling anybody before, and really don't know how it works. If you don't mind to guide me a little bit about where should I start.

heytae][quote=SirTradesaLot]Try what this guy did: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/walk-in-cold-call-question[/quote

Great story, but I'm not sure I can pull it off.

Let's get to the point: you have big dreams, right?

You are competing against people that have been positioning themselves for this kind of job since middle school. In this kind of environment, you can't stand out by sitting in your room sending out e-mails and posting to job boards. Get off your ass and get out there...literally get out and start handing out your resume. Do what the other guy did and ask for the hiring managers at the front desk and close the fuckin' deal. Starting tonight and through the weekend, get a list of all the firms in your area and on Monday, start attacking all of them. You should be able to visit at least 3-5 per day, unless they keep you for more than three interviews per firm, in which case you are in a good spot anyway.

Post again here in two weeks and let us know how it went. Make sure you take good notes at every place so we get all the details and can pinpoint how to help you some more or you can share your success story with everyone else and they will have a blueprint on how to pull it off.

SirTradesaLotYou definitely won't if you don't try.

You've got a point. It's one way for the kid to prove he's got what it takes (i.e., can handle uncomfortable situations, talk to clients, etc.). With a resume like that, it may be the only way.

Network.

I'm going to assume you're Thai and there's actually a group of Thai people working in Finance all over the states. As a matter of fact, your best chance is to reach out to any connections you have back in Thailand. I see you stated that your undergrad is a top university in Bangkok, so I'm going to assume it's chulalongkorn - which is quite international as I recall, I can already think of a few contacts who went there and worked in finance in SF and that's just off the top of my head. Why not look into the alumni database? And no offense to your culture, I think Thai people generally enjoy any connection they have with each other.

Thank you for your input. You're right about my university and also about my culture. Do you know a lot of Thai people?
