College student experience question
So I have quite a bit of work experience, more than most traditional college students I'm assuming. Though my GPA is good and I'm at a semi-target school, I've been using the experienced hire resume format, which has actually worked decently for me. By this, I mean my experience is at the top, followed by my education, then followed by my interests/activities (M&I format).
Would you recommend using the traditional "university" student resume instead, despite my experience? I have a good GPA as noted earlier (right around 3.8) but my experience I believe is really what sets me apart, and I've been trying to highlight that via having it at the top. However, after reading a post by an analyst who described the resume selection process, I'm curious if my formatting is maybe hurting me? Do analysts, while looking through resumes, immediately look at the top for GPA/School/Major to cut people out irrespective of experience?
Thanks!
A resume is one page, it's not like they'll have to look through pages and pages before they can find your GPA. I think you're fine. Good work experience > gpa, in my honest opinion.
Good luck.
Yup at the analyst level it's about pedigree
They do if they don't know you. Experience counts a lot more if you network, make friends, and have someone gunning for you.
Keep your format...that's what I would do.
Then again, I'm the guy that put "[This page intentionally left blank]" for all his cover letters. ;)
Mikebrady,
when you refer to pedigree, do you mean education/GPA/"prestige" of the university, or what I've done outside of school like work experience?
Thanks for the advice by the way all of you!
