Cover Letter Review :)

Hi Guys- I am looking for an internship opportunity in the private equity sector. I come from a Big Ten school looking to crack into the market. Should I customize my cover letter better? Please criticize freely :)

As a detail-oriented student with a passion for data analysis, I am thrilled to have the chance to assist your team in developing valuation models and doing research to find investment opportunities for XXXX

I am currently a Junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of XXXX where I have focused on both financial and economic theory. Thanks to many late-night trips to the library and cup upon cup of coffee, I have completed and excelled in my economics and accounting classes, earning a spot on the Dean’s list for two straight semesters. Outside of these quantitative courses, I have also found a passion for writing and communicating, and was recommended by my Business Communications professor to pursue a major/minor in writing. I believe that my ability to understand and apply complex numerical theories and then synthesize and articulate my findings clearly, make me an ideal candidate for this role.

In addition to my coursework, my internship at XXXX, a private equity firm in XXXX, has provided me with a great opportunity to apply these economic and financial concepts to real-life business decisions. Whether it be researching potential investment opportunities, building discounted cash flow and leveraged buyout valuation models, or just communicating with coworkers, I have learned a tremendous amount about how to apply, adjust and simplify academic theories to effectively tackle unique business problems. I know that the skills I have learned at this internship will help me to quickly recognize the techniques needed to provide quality analysis of potential investments for XXXX.
