High School Real Estate PE Internship

Hello Everyone!

I'm a High School Junior, soon to be Senior, applying for an Internship at a small Real Estate Private Equity Firm. I'm being considered since a close associate of mine knows one of the employees, who has shown interest in me. He wants me to send over a resume to him by tomorrow at noon, so I finished it today in the hope that some of you might be able to point out any mistakes that I made or to guide me in certain areas of the resume that may be mislabeled, incorrectly worded, etc.

Also, is there anything that this resume is lacking for someone my age applying to this position? And/or, do I include information that may be irrelevant or unnecessary?

Also, I know the formatting looks off on the website, but it seems to be a mistake in the conversion from my MS Word doc to the website, as in my document the formatting is normal.

Thank you all in advance for your feedback!

Pretty clever actually, didn't think we would see you back.

please please please please please fix the formatting on this resume. i dont care if you are a Junior in HS or in pre-school, your resume needs to be flawless. esp if you are applying for finance positions.

other than that...its in good shape.

I know you said that the formatting got messed up during uploading, but like the others have said, make sure it is PERFECT when you send it. You have a great resume for a HS junior and this would b an awesome experience to add to it, especially at such a young age.

I'd take off the thing about "trading stocks" becuase it sounds forced (unless you personally trade/ REAL stocks at such a young age).

Impossible is nothing

I know the formatting is off on Razume, but I will be-mailing him my resume via PDF file which has no issues, and is symmetrical/correctly arranged.

This is what the resume looks like in PDF form, edited and correctly formatted. http://www.razume.com/documents/19890

Alright, I will bite.

  1. Ignore all the guys that tell you to get off WSO and go out and get laid - this sounds like an interesting opportunity, so go get it.
  2. Get the PSAT off your resume. No need to remind anyone that you haven't taken the SATs yet.
  3. Algebra and Pre-Calc do not count as relevant coursework. Have you taken an econ class?
  4. Relevant coursework is more important than your honors classes - rearrange.
  5. Algebra and Pre-Calc is redundant - pre-calc implies you have taken algebra.
  6. Analyzed stocks using balance sheets sounds ridiculous. It also opens you up to accounting questions - this could be good if you can answer them, otherwise if you can't explain what a balance sheet is and why it balances, this looks bad.
  7. Make a 9.8% profit should be rephrased to "had a cumulative return of", and possibly annualize.
  8. Might want to generalize what methods you used - for example, traded based on fundamental and technical analysis.
  9. Bankers don't do HFT - traders/quants do.
  10. Ancient and Modern Cultural Studies needs to have "Club" at the end to be parallel with above.
  11. Be consistent with spacing around the "/" in your titles - I suggest space before and after, but BE CONSISTENT.
  12. "US Court Cases" is much more relevant than something about Rome. Change order.
  13. "various topics including finance and marketing" need comma after topics and after marketing
  14. "Planed" should be Planned.
  15. Get rid of the line about $800. Think of something else you did. You need to add fluff to your resume to take up more space, if nothing else.
  16. Languages - change order. French is not only classier, but also alphabetically correct.

Also, would be nice to add Excel skills - if you have them. In college it is assumed, but in high school that would be nice to point out. Oh yeah, if you don't have them, get to work.

Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions.

edit - you should also edit your original post to include the correct link so others don't waste their time reviewing the older version.

Thank you very much for the critique! Unfortunately, I've already sent out my resume.

I'll still make the changes nonetheless for future use.

Edit: Question. What are some specifics that I should know about Excel? the most I can do is run basic macros, use some of the more useful shortcuts, etc. Also, are there any books/sites that'll be helpful in learning more?

I also haven't taken an Econ class yet, though I'm planning on self-studying micro/macro over the summer.
