How soon is too soon to jump?
Hey WSO,
I moved jobs about 10mos ago after doing just 1yr at my previous firm, and am already looking to move on. The reason I moved from my last job was because, frankly, I felt they mis-sold the role (admittedly, my fault for not checking it in greater detail) and, likely as a result, because I didn't find the work stimulating.
I set out to find a role that was more fast paced and more intellectually challenging and, during the early stages at my new role, believed I'd found it. Since, however, my estimations have fallen drastically. Senior management (as, it seems, it common across a number of employers across WSO) overestimate their contribution and necessity to the firm, bonuses were average to poor, and the workplace atmosphere - for lack of a better word - is toxic. I'm talking widespread verbal harassment and public humiliation on a daily basis for every Associate and Analyst (and even some Snr Traders). Calling it emotional abuse would honestly not be a stretch. It's unsurprising how high the churn-rate is for employees, particularly at the junior levels (it's not uncommon for people to last less than two months, while one guy lasted less than 48hrs).
I'm curious to hear how people would perceive me leaving a second job after just 1yr. I have another opportunity already lined up and, other than these past two "blips," believe I have a relatively strong CV: top ranked target uni in the UK, solid brand-name internships in my field of interest, etc.
Thanks.
