"Lied" On Resume - Need Help for SA26
Hi all,
I am writing this because I have been dealing with a lot of anxiety, and I could really use some honest advice. I know I made a serious mistake, possibly one that could cost me everything I have worked for, but I am hoping someone can offer some guidance or perspective on what to expect and what I can do next.
During the Summer Analyst 2026 recruiting process, I made a couple of errors on my resume. Now that I have landed an offer at a strong BB or EB, I am extremely worried that the offer could be rescinded.
The first issue is with my GPA. Before the end of my sophomore fall, my GPA was a 3.75. I listed it as 3.8 on my resume, rounding up and not including the two decimal places. The problem is that I submitted my application about a week after my fall grades were released, which brought my GPA down to a 3.6X. I completely overlooked this change and submitted my resume with the outdated number. While I did not intend to mislead anyone, I know that does not change the fact that the GPA listed is no longer accurate.
The second issue is related to my upcoming summer internship. At the time I applied, I had what I believed was a verbal offer from a boutique firm for summer 2025. It seemed like a done deal and I listed it on my resume as incoming. Unfortunately, due to unexpected changes in the firm’s management, the opportunity fell through. I am now unsure whether they would be willing to vouch for me, and I realize that listing it without confirmation was a poor decision.
I understand how serious this all sounds and I take full responsibility. I am not looking to make excuses. I just want to be transparent and try to make things right if there is any way to do that. I have been dealing with a lot of anxiety over this and would appreciate any advice. Whether it is about coming clean, waiting it out, or preparing for the worst, I am open to hearing your thoughts.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
GPAs change and internships fall through it’s gonna be a non issue don’t worry about it. Nothing to come clean about since when you submitted it was accurate to your best knowledge
It’ll be chill big guy
youre cooked
Chill the fuck out. Your internship will literally be a none issue, and your GPA likely won’t be an issue as well. If you want to make sure, grind your ass off next semester and bring your GPA to 3.7+. Extremely unlikely the HR will trace your GPA down to make sure you did not lie; never heard or seen happen. Even if they did, they very likely won’t care if you explain your situation.

Prospect knows nothing as usual
This is not a big deal even in the slightest and won’t be looked at twice. Shit like this happens all of the time. GPA was not misrepresented. Internship fell through shit happens

There’s a difference between knowingly fabricating something in your resume and a clerical error, which this amounts to. He’ll be fine.
It is only problematic if you lied about the whole thing, but in this case there are multiple ways a background check company can verify this (1. Show GPA calculation at the time of submitting app removing the other classes and 2. Phone number / E-mail of any person at the firm where the offer fell through)
