new freshman resume

Alright so I go to a top target and I am looking to finish up my JPM Freshman and Sophomore Investment Banking Summer program application and the SEO-U application sometime this week.

This is the resume I'll be submitting: http://www.razume.com/documents/13212

I know it's missing something that screams finance, but I have only a semester of college under my belt (which is my reason for wanting to experience many different things)

One question to ask, is should I include the courses I'm enrolled in next semester on the resume because I will be taking much more relevant courses to economics and business skills.

Thanks in advance for all comments and suggestions!

Good job starting early man.

  1. I would not put what courses you are going to take next semester. You didn't take them yet, so what is the point. 2. Also let me make a recommendation, I would take out the "highly stressful-environment" part for the second job listing. It kind of makes you sound like you couldn't handle it. If anything it makes the whole section sound negative, you never want to say something that will portray negativity or incapability. Positive - positive - positive only. Thats my opinion, don't take it personal. Besides that, I think you need to just brush up the wording etc. Overall you are only a freshman so kudos to you

you have a fantastic resume for a freshman

Anthony D- what? he has a 3.74, you cant round that to a 3.8. 3.75 and above, maybe. and either way his GPA is quite strong

Ya, 3.74 if a great GPA. I am pulling the suggested rounding to a 3.8 from another well known IB site and personal suggestion. Personally I don't see much difference between a 3.74 and a 3.8, but it isn't a big deal. Like I said, really strong resume for a Freshman.

Yeah I don't really think I can round up to 3.8?

Also, the internship I had at Merrill wasn't too quantitative, it was more I come, learn some stuff, and do some tasks related to the FA position.

And this may be a stupid question what is bloomberg and reuters experience? Do you mean do I go on those websites to keep updated on current markets and deals?

Naa, ask around your university, they probably have a Bloomberg terminal, Reuters, Factset, something like that. You can get Bloomberg certified which basically entails you watching videos and taking a test. It isn't huge, but it shows a familiarity with a very common tool at most IB's. Don't sweat it if you can't find one though. Like I said, you have a really good resume.

Okay so I shouldn't put down my courses for next semester because I haven't take them yet, but will it be the same case if I am currently taking them (if I turn in the application after second semester starts) Please excuse my nitpickyness

Anthony D- okay thanks I'll ask around for that when I get back

Well I don't think it is a huge issue about putting them down if you are going to take them, but suppose you get called in for an interview and the person interviewing you looks on your resume and sees derivatives listed on your classes and starts asking you about black scholes and binomial models and stuff like that. If you can't answer it the person is going to wonder why. That is my concern. If it is stuff you have a solid understanding on then feel free to put it on. It is a risk you are running though.

Okay makes sense, thanks a lot. It's just I had to take a lot of GE requirements my first semester because I had tested out the business curriculum requirements for first semester freshmen(calculus, basic macro and micro econ). Thus my business curriculum will start kicking in second semester.

If you keep it up they way you have been at such an early stage your gonna succeed and do really well. Keep it up man and good luck
