On Cycle Resume
For someone who had limited deal experience in their summer internship last year due to the slow market(mainly pitches, decks), how can I include enough detail on my "transaction experience" and internship experience on my resume that I will send to head hunters and PE shops for on cycle recruiting. I have heard that the typical college banking resume format should be changed to focus more heavily on work experience at the top of the page for on cycle PE recruiting.
The point of asking about a deal is to see how you think about companies. I would just talk about a company your group covers that you know well using the perspective of a PE investor. What makes it an attractive/ unattractive investment? What do you think about the valuation and how does that compare to peers in the space? What are some of the risks unique to the business or space? Using this frame I think you could still talk about a “deal” without having any deal experience. One big thing to keep in mind is that I wouldn’t lie about what you actually did. It’s really easy to see through that. Feel free to call your experience part of a pitch that was interesting to you so you did extra research on.
