Resume Help Needed - Internship Positions

Hi all,

I'm a freshman at Berkeley City College and I really am passionate and determined to get myself in the door and become a successful Investment Banker. I really would appreciate anyone who knows anything about what makes a good finance resume. I would appreciate all forms of criticism as long as its informative.

Your spacing between bullets is crazy - can tell you are trying to fill the page (when I open it actually bleeds into second page). Also, don't love the hyphen you use between your location and the dates. Not a big fan of periods at the end of bullets (but that's just my personal preference). Bullets are a bit too chunky.

Put your education at the top as it's probably most relevant (as you get more relevant work experience, you can de-emphasize education). I'd suggest putting Candidate 2016 (or whatever) so people know how close you are to completing your program (and being FT).

Never put MS Office as a skill. Actually, drop all your skills stuff and find a better place for the Bloomberg... SDC stuff. Excel and PowerPoint are proper nouns / registered trademarks so capitalize them.

Add some interests: Team sports are good. Leadership / volunteer positions / case competitions are good also.

Get someone you know in the industry to review your resume. Or pay the WSO guys to do a resume review.

Two things from a quick look:

1) The format is simply off. It doesn't look like an industry resume. It doesn't have to look like a printed template just like the next guy's, but you at least have to make it blend more than that. Go look around here, M&I, or Google and find some IB/IM templates. Copy off of that for format.

2) "Founder & Manager" is a bit inaccurate for your student org experience. You run clubs. Use words like "President" or "Director of xyz". It's a bit more honest and forthcoming to the reader. Doesn't undersell but also doesn't oversell to the "no" pile.

Once you've reformatted, post an updated copy!
