3.0 at ulala to pere now I've seen it all.
I wouldn't even know where to start...
Aim small, miss small.
great patriot quote!
Ape,
will you elaborate with constructive criticism?
I think what he's trying to say is...
you have a low gpa from a complete non target you graduated 3.5 years ago you have no relevant work experience etc
complete non target is being nice when talking about the rajun cajuns.
I think what needs to be stressed is that you won't be getting anywhere in your job hunt by "applying". Do you have any connections that can help make introductions or pass your resume along?
Sure, you have relevant experience but your school and GPA are not doing you any favors. Just network and keep trying. People on this board do it all the time.
Did I read that correctly? You "started a company and grew it to gross over 500,000 in sales"? How much profit did you make? Are you the only equity holder? And why are you selling it?
I didn't read any of the bullshit experience bullet-points, and I'm guessing a resume sorter wouldn't bother either. Too much non-interesting shit.
I'd focus on your business you started. What industry? What did you sell/do? Profit? Reason for selling? How much are you selling the business for? How many years did you run it for? etc
If this business was legitimate, and you made some good profit with high margins in a cool niche field, then elaborate about in your resume. Though, perhaps I'm over-estimating the significance of this "business" - if it were a legitimate achievement, wouldn't it be at the top of your resume?
I'm can't "chance you" on IB/PE, because I really have no bloody clue. What I can say though if if your business is "legitimate", then there should be plenty of job opportunities for you, though perhaps not in IB/PE.
Won:
-Make all of your bullets past tense. -Elaborate more on some of your points; they should be structured to illustrate what you did, through what means you did what you did, and what you achieved implementing the means to do what you did - Visit the mergers and inquisitions website to get the proper IB resume template/layout
best of luck!
RPCAS the EBITA was 31% with most of the sales being generated in 2008 during the oil boom. The business built and sold filtering and fueling units to bio-fuel users making fuel for diesel engines. The bio-fuel business I was in depended on trend more than need. Now that its not as trendy and fuel hasn't skyrocketed business has been slow for 2 plus years and I want to focus on my financial career. With that being said I sold the company and all its assets to the company I was marketing my products to. I sold the units and their company sold the knowledge and additives to make the fuel. The business ran for 5+ years, I own the company 100% and my reasoning for sell was because it grossed less than 12000 in 2010 and I didn't want the headache. I still hold an equity position just not as large.
That sound's very solid. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you sell it for?
To be honest, I really have no idea if you have a chance at IB/PE. I'm still in college and have no finance experience, so I'm not going to pretend to have the answer.
What I do know, however, it that the few posters above have been far too quick in writing you off. You have an experience that very few others do, but you need to sell it. If I were sorting resumes, I would be really impressed with your business and I would give you an interview regardless of your other qualifications.
Definitely re-format the resume though. It's a complete mess. Then repost!
Just received an offer from a PE firm. Thanks for the help.
