Rising Senior looking for IBD Analyst position
Hello everyone.
I would really appreciate if you guys can take a look at my resume and give some thoughts. Please be harsh on me. I am here to learn.
http://www.razume.com/documents/21497
My background: International students, rising senior, been in the U.S. for 7 years Unknown Liberal Arts College with Major in Economics and Performing Arts GPA: 3.1, Econ GPA: 3.5 Work Experience: 3 internships in IBD (NYC), PE, VC (emerging market) Leaderships: good leadership role, recruiting students for school
I understand that my GPA is low and I am from a no-name school, but the reason is that I went to college with the mindset of being a professional violinist. So, for the first 3 years, all I did was practicing.
Things change, and now I am all set for finance. Cold called over 150 firms last year to land this summer internship. Look forward to another great year of job hunting.
What are the best ways I can do to increase my chance?
My appreciation, guys.
wish i got to perform valuations as an SA ):
First thing that jumps out is to capitalize your sub-headings and the dates of your positions. Also, put the dates ie) Jan 2010 - April 2010 directly underneath the work location.
Just curious - how did you get your internships with such a low GPA? Quickly looked at the Dinogroup website and it seems like a legit place. How did you like working there?
Thanks for your comments. Any other comments about details, wordings? Any advice how I can further improve my chance for full time recruitment?
Do you think it would be fine to not capitalize these sub headings and the dates? Would the detailed dates (e.g. Jan 2010-Apr. 2010) be repetitive with "summer 2010"?
As I said I cold called over 150 firms. I got a hold of my MD in Apr. and kept in touch with him every 1-2 weeks. I finally got an offer after one intern dropped out. The firm is small, but we have some substantial deal flow going on. I have worked directly with my MDs and attended meetings with clients as well as with investors.
Would really appreciate further advice from everyone.
Thanks,
Sorry - what I meant was to remove the Summer 2010 and replace it with April 2010 - August 2010. I think that your bullet points look good.
There must be something you can put under activities - any clubs or conferences you have been a part of while at school?
OH yeah, I have it. I am the first violinist in my quartet and travel Europe with my school's orchestra. I basically involve heavily with school's admissions that I do from giving tours, conducting interviews, to representing schools in various events.
