Trying to get into finance with a bleak resume?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to break into the finance side, but things have proven to be super tough. I graduated from Berkeley with a 3.1 GPA and my resume isn't that extensive. Sure I did an internship at an IB and am currently working on a contracted gig at Google, but in realty the work did require any heavy brainpower. My 16 year old brother could have done these jobs on my resume.

Any advice on how to embellish my resume?

I don't really have an finance experience, should I enroll in a finance certificate course or study for the CFA Level I?

I'm afraid I could end up moving back home and get stuck with my parents because I don't have a lot of experience to get into the finance industry.

Bro, looked at it for about 15 seconds. You aren't getting interviews or callbacks because 1) you have to change your formatting. Use the M&I format. It's just become a status quo, so anything that is one off will be frowned upon 2) too much white space. Fix the margins and fill in the gaps. should help with the new format 3) QUANTIFY QUANTIFY QUANTIFY. The UBS experience is great. tell me about a time that you helped add value there. what did you do? tell me about a time that you helped improve a process, or save time or money. How much did you help save? How did you help save it? These are the questions that go through my mind when I read your resume. I see that youre someone that has some interest in banking, but I'm not sure of how your experiences helped lead you to banking.

Hope this helped. (ONTO TO SENIOR MONKEY!!)

There's a closer meaning to my user name. Try reading it quickly. Perhaps you will then understand ;P

This resume is very weak, I think you should consult a professional. This site and others offer such services.

You are very much qualified to get a job in high finance with a >3.0 GPA from a target school and an IB internship under your belt. You are currently working for Google. You are a much stronger candidate on paper (just not this paper) than most people on this site.

But the resume needs a complete rewrite and I would guess your interview skills are weak as well. If you land a good job, the difference in pay will be such that you could recoup your cost on the consultant in as little as a single week.
