Turning an hotel internship into something useful
I'm on my third/last year of a bachelor in economics. Uni is not "target", but it's considered best in my country.
I had a first summer internship in risk management, mainly around excel and credit models.
This year though, I had an internship in the reservations part of an hotel (I basically processed reservations, also did some presentations of restaurants, boat tours, etc...). The reason I did is fairly common, it's kind of a family business and I wanted to make sure finance (Asset Management) was the real deal for me.
Now I'm wondering if it's even worth it to add to my resume or not.
Advantages :
-Asset Management might include some interactions with clients, which I could turn my internship to, by saying I focused on the clients needs/understanding how to efficiently handle their requests/concept of a standard process to deal with client requests ( mind you they are fairly basic requests, like "I want to go to an indian restaurant")
-I do have a recommendation letter, saying I was a great worker;
Disadvantages:
-Mostly the fact that I already did some finance related, that I chose to step away might lead interviewers to wonder whether I really want finance or not.
I'd appreciate any input/ideas/whatever you have on this subject, just trying to understand what other people feel about this kind of internship.
Thanks a lot :)
What you described is not Asset Management. You can spin your work experience into something useful, but not completely restructuring it.
