Actuary transferring to Finance career
Hi, I'm a current actuary currently working in one of the Big4 company, and recently started to seriously think about my future career.
-undergrad from top tier public school (gpa 3.49)
-has been working in actuarial career for <1yr
I desperately want to go to one of the MFE programs so that I can change my career into quant/financial engineering. However my gpa from undergrad is unimpressive and I wonder if there’s any way which I could recover them before I apply to any of the schools. I considered retaking such courses from community college, but a lot said it’d be meaningless but waste of money. Can you guys recomment me any way to make up my poor performance in some of the major courses that I took in college? (Ex Linear Algebra, Multivar calc, Stats ...)
Is GPA very important in MFE programs?
Should I work longer (+2 years) to obtain actuarial credential (ACAS) and then apply to MFE program? I know for sure that I no longer want to work in actuarial career for my entire life, and ACAS wouldn't help much if I make a transition into financial career, but I wonder if I’d have to stay longer in my current company to stand out in MFE application..
Any thoughts would be very helpful!
