Advice needed on bschool

Hi,

Im a non-US citizen(but finished my BS in Kelley with a gpa of 3.1). I have 2yrs 6 months of experience in the military, a year and a half in sales trading in local investment bank in asia, and spent three years in creating stock loan business in my country. ( I know stock loan is a lowly regarded sector within the financial industry but my career goal is to break into prime brokerage, hopefully in Hong Kong post-MBA). I was lucky enough to score 710 in my GMAT(51 in quant). My target schools are CBS, Booth, Stern, and Wharton(only if i can get into any.....)

I have two questions. One, with my background, am i aiming too high? Second, how bad does it look on my application if 1) I dont have ECs that stand out & 2) had to quit my last job for MBA preparation...(had a reason for it...)

Im hearing adcomm dings all applicants who quit their jobs for mBA preparation...btw, Im planning to get into equity financing job in HK post MBA.. would really appreciate if any one can give me some advice...many thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry about the ECs. Quitting the job might hurt a bit, but it won't kill you. I think you have a decent shot at getting accepted to one of those schools, but no guarantee. I would apply to some backups, maybe some schools in the 11-20 range like McCombs, Kenan-Flagler, or Anderson.

Hi strader,

Your GPA and GMAT score will not rule you out of those MBA programs. However, because the business schools you are targetting are very competitive, you will need to find a way to differentiate your application in your letters of recommendation and essays. Have you considered who will write your recommendation?

I hope this was of help.
