Advice Needed - UVA Vs. Vandy Vs. UF

Okay I am extremely confused on what to do -

I've gotten admittance to UF's MSF program & UVA's MS Commerce program (Financial Services concentration), & awaiting an Interview at Vanderbilt's MSF.

Out of the three, tuition not considered, would be the best choice?

Now considering tuition, Vandy and UVA will cost about the same but UF will be around $25K less since I am Instate.

I think I want to do corporate finance, but certainly want to explore other options as well. I'm definitely not looking to go to Wall Street or IB. (way too much stress)

In my position, which school would be the best option? My main focus is on job prospects, don't care about much else.

Here's a few more stats on my background -

UG School: University of North Florida Degree: Information systems GPA: 3.73 / 3.88 upper GMAT: 660 2 yr+ internship experience @ BCBSFL as a BA

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks much :)

The PhantomUVA. Retake your GMAT because grad students of programs such as MComm, MSF, MMS, etc. get asked about their GMAT scores. 660 is shit

To clarify, I meant that recruiters during job interviews ask for your GMAT score. 660 is solid for grad school, but definitely will hurt you during interviews.

This is why you need to go to UVA: http://msfhq.com/2011/01/university-of-virginia-ms-commerce-on-campus-r…

A friend of a friend told me that almost every single one wanna-be-banker received an offer this year.

Thanks for the advice everyone! :)

abacabOne area you might have a disadvantage in for placement is that you won't have the internship experience like others.

@TheFullMonte - I actually do have internship experience, as stated in my posted. I've been doing an Internship since January of '09 as a Business Analyst, in which I've had exposure to a lot of financial aspects, so I'm not worried too much about that.

My only concern with UF is that when graduating, I will be competing with UF undergrads, which probably looks considerably better than an UNF undergrad - versus in UVA, the students mostly have liberal arts degrees, in which I think being an IS major will give me a considerable advantage.

Also, how would my salary compare graduating from UVA to graduating from UF? any idea? In my research, the average for UVA is about $15K higher, but is that due to placement in IB?

Go with UF. Their placements are very good, developed program, you don't want to do investment banking so why pay extra.

UVA has an amazing program though. Mad respect for it.

Also, on a personal level, UVA's program definitely appeals to me the most because of it's global immersion prog & Group study.

At UVA, over half the people in your class will be UVA undergrads, which will get more respect than North Florida (or Florida, in most places). One of the big points of the program is that it allows the liberal arts majors to "check the box" on ability to learn business/technical/quant skills, so undergrad major becomes less relevant.

That said, UF seems like it would suit your needs at a lower cost.
