Any advice for a complete beginner?

So, summer has just begun, and for me, a freshman-going-on-sophomore in high school, that equates to a lot of free time. I've recently been giving a lot of thought to potential careers, and finance seems like a very viable option for me. I have (and foresee having, come college and beyond) an interest in the field, excel at mathematics, and am willing to hunker down and learn, regardless of my interest (or lack thereof).

Problem is, I don't know a whole lot about finance beyond common knowledge. I've started to familiarize myself with some of the basic terminology of the field, as well as some of the most basic concepts that the industry is built on.

But where do I go from here? Does anybody out there have any self-study suggestions (free, preferably)? Books to read, videos to watch? Basically, I want to know how I can start to teach myself the foundations (and maybe more) of finance.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance if you decide to post. Also, I apologize if this is something of a mispost, I'm not sure which sub-forum this belongs in.

Thanks again.

[quote=Daedalus]The technical reading material depends a lot on what you might want to do. You're in high school. You have a lot of time to figure that out along the way. My suggestion would be to start by picking up a bit of the Wall Street culture before studying anything technical.

Scroll down to the "General Reading on Wall Street" section:

Thanks, that seems like quite the reading list.
