Athletic Recruit at Georgetown MSB, NYU Stern, UChi

I am currently an athletic recruit who's narrowed down my options for undergrad to NYU Stern, Georgetown MSB, and UChicago. I am aware that Stern is essentially second best to HYPSM and Wharton, but Georgetown and UChicago are a little behind in terms of finance job placement. Would it be smart to take NYU Stern over both Georgetown MSB and UChicago?

NYU - because I like NYU and the school and location

Depends. UChicago if you'd rather focus on academics, Stern if you want to go to a pre-professional undergrad business school. Both are targets, and so is Georgetown, so it solely depends on what you're looking for

Nah. Go to Georgetown or UChicago. If you choose UChicago, go for the new business econ major which is pretty easy. Keep in mind the only reason Stern is second best to HYPWS is that nearly everyone there is interested in finance or consulting. At places like UChicago or Georgetown, there's a lot less total people interested but they probably place better per capita. I'd pick UChicago. If you major in Business Econ, you can get a 3.8+ by the time you recruit and very easily a 3.7+.

I think you're missing the fact that you have to live in Chicago. The NYU location is superior.

This was extremely helpful and I will definitely keep it in mind as I make my decision. Currently, I think Georgetown is at the top of my list, just because it is a wonderful institution, I like the campus and the team, and has a more laid-back vibe compared to UChi.

There are very few people who would choose NYU Stern or GTown over Uchicago given the choice, but prestige is not the only thing that matters. The question is whether you'd be happy and successful at UChicago. It's a hard school, and the hardest place to get a good GPA among those 3. You'd also have to be more self-motivated in studying finance technicals since there's not an undergrad business school. South side Chicago is also a dangerous frozen wasteland, so something to consider. That all said, having a chance to go to Uchicago is a unique opportunity very few people get, and the academic experience there is pretty special. You’ll meet a lot of off-the-charts geniuses. (But will also compete with them). Visit each school and decide for yourself.

Well Georgetown is D1 so I’d probably go there. That’s more impressive than D3 and will make up for any “gap” in supposed prestige that MAY exist. Also, D.C. is arguably the best city out of the 3 for college experience, but that’s just my opinion given G-towns location within the city.

There’s nowhere near enough support for GTown here. If you’re getting recruited for swimming, go there, seriously. Kill it in the pool, study at McDonough and get easy A’s, join a frat, and you’re set.

Life in DC as a college student at GU is unrivaled, so many opportunities to meet interesting and influential people, do impactful work, and to have fun.
