Best way to develop a good understanding of finance?

Incoming freshman at Ross. I'm 100% aware how Ross has somewhat strong placement, BUT there is intense club culture + internal competition that leads to many competitive students striking out, and I'm willing to put my all to make sure I'm don't end up in that position.

That brings me to my question - I have a decent understanding of banking, buyside, the recruiting process in general - but does anyone have any recommendations for any books, readings, etc for me to develop a more holistic understanding to make sure I have no knowledge gaps (more specific on the industry, or just things that would be good to know beforehand)? I know some people are going to say enjoy your senior year and everything - I'm going to parties and having the time of my life rn, but in my free time I do like doing some things that are productive.

I have a really strong desire to "be better" than my equally qualified competition in the next 4 years, and I'll do whatever it takes to stand out. For ex, during my campus tour I was able to build a connection with my tour guide since he was in one of MIG/MII/GIC, since I already had some background knowledge about their placements in the last couple years as I had done research beforehand (he was impressed by this as well). Kind of a weird example but just shows how I feel being prepared for anything and ahead of the rest of Ross is so important to stand out. Not trying to come off as arrogant or anything, really just looking for advice.

I'm oos so if anyone is at ross or knows more info about umich recruiting, I do have some questions and it would be much appreciated if I could dm or anything.
