Canadian banks in Toronto-->Ivy League MBA

Do Ivy League business schools recognize top Canadian banks at least at the same level as MM NYC IBs? How realistic would it be for somebody with 2 years experience at a top Canadian bank to get into an Ivy League business school after a 2 year analyst stint (and possibly some MM PE experience) with 3.8 GPA and 700+ gmat score, business/commerce degree at Queen's/Ivey?

There aren't many with direct route to Ivy MBA. However I've seen people who did a few years in Canadian banking, then transferring to either to a US BB/PE/Canadian Pension Funds/MBB, then went on to top Ivy.

Well, there are a whole lot of “ifs” there considering you’re still an undergrad.

First off, HBS is out given that profile. I’m not that familiar with business schools outside of the US or the criteria that they use, but INSEAD is considered a top-tier international school, and therefore you’ll have a tough time getting in there as well.

As for the rest, it depends. A 3.4 GPA and a 700+ GMAT will get you a look from the rest of the schools listed, but nothing is too compelling about the profile you posted to scream acceptance. The top 15 US b-schools all have GPA and GMAT averages above 3.4 and 700, respectively.

As for your Canadian background, I believe most graduate business schools don’t treat Canadian applicants differently than Americans. Furthermore, they are familiar with the top universities and employers in Canada, so don’t feel compelled to work in the US for an edge into business school.

Best of luck.

Dude, everything in your profile is an "if". You're young. Finish out school with good grades, get the best job possible, and then kill it once you're there. Find some time to take the GMAT in there and you'll be in perfectly fine shape for the schools you listed. Will you get into HBS? Unlikely with the exact ifs you listed, but who knows what will happen. Score a great job, jump ship to an innovative startup, and rip a 770 while you're at it, and then you may have a shot.

But seriously, if you'd have asked anyone when I was a senior in college if I'd get into the schools I got into, they would have said no (GPA was shitty and didn't have a great job coming out of college). 4-5 years does a lot to change your profile.

And being Canadian has no effect. They understand Canadian GPAs and Canadian schools, so won't hurt or help you.

It really does depend on where you did your undergrad from as well.. pretty sure the most recognizable schools by program are at Ivey, Queens, UofT-Rotman, Mcgill, UBC
