Chances for HBS 2+2/Stanford GSB Deferred
Hey y’all.
I’m currently an URM LGBT male undergrad at Columbia University. Estimating my gpa will be 3.6/3.7 when I apply. I’ve done 2 summers at a top investment bank (sophomore and junior) and will be returning full time.
I actually transferred to Columbia after doing some courses at a community college and have a personal story behind that.
Currently serve in an executive leadership position at my school representing a big national organization for URM in finance. I primarily help develop connections between employers and other diverse candidates on campus and provide them with resources to help them attain their professional goals. Overall I’m really passionate about helping underserved communities due to my own personal background.
I’m estimating my GMAT score will be 700+.
That said what are my chances for Harvard’s 2+2 program and Stanford’s deferred GSB? I’m aware Columbia also has a deferred MBA program but am not interested in staying in NYC for my MBA. (Would be nice to get out of the city!)
Thanks!!

Bump?
Htt2107,
I've worked with quite a few HBS 2+2 and Stanford deferred students (when they were applicants). You definitely have the chops for both programs. However, you are taking the safe route by accepting the IB job with the bank for which you interned. It seems that both programs gravitate towards applicants that take risks pre-MBA. I believe the thinking is that the safe route positions you well for applying to the program through the traditional application 2-3 years down the road. Having the 2+2 or deferral offer enables you to take risks because you already have an admission offer in your back pocket. Please feel free to contact me: [email protected], if you want to go into detail about risk taking vs. typical pre-MBA job.
