Colgate or Villanova
For a friend, majoring in applied math, very interested in AI. Plans to either work at a tech firm or finance afterwards, but obviously not totally sure. They’ve been accepted to both schools already.
Frankly I see Colgate as more prestigious, but Nova probably has better dedicated programs.
Anyone have any experience at either school?
Based on the WSO Dataset, both Colgate University and Villanova University have their strengths, but your friend's decision might lean towards Villanova, especially if they are considering a strong alignment with finance or tech. Here’s a breakdown:
Villanova University: Known for its growing placement in investment banking, Villanova could be a strategic choice. The Villanova School of Business (VSB) has been recognized for its efforts in enhancing programs like the M&A Society and creating workshops that align with investment banking demands. This could provide a robust foundation for someone interested in finance. Additionally, if your friend decides to pivot towards tech, having a business background could be beneficial in tech firms, especially in roles that intersect with finance.
Colgate University: While Colgate is indeed prestigious and offers a strong liberal arts education, the focus on applied math and AI might not be as pronounced as in a tech or business-oriented program. However, Colgate's reputation and the quality of education could still provide a solid foundation in critical thinking and problem-solving, which are valuable in any field.
Given your friend’s interest in potentially working in tech or finance and their acceptance to both schools, Villanova might offer more specialized resources and programs aligned with their current interests, particularly in finance. If they are leaning more towards tech, they might want to explore specific programs and opportunities at Villanova that could bridge business and technology.

Tbh transfer if serious about ib.
Nobody said IB. Also why, both are semi targets
Dawg if you think Villanova or Colgate are semi targets you’re just wrong. Non targets. Not a debate.
Can't comment on Colgate however I would definitely look into Villanova. There have been some very strong placements this year. Most of these are coming out of the applied quantitative finance major, which is applied mathematics and computer science with finance. This program is led by the former global head of structured credit trading at Merrill. Naturally places very well into BOFA.
Bump. Aqf program places very well. People who run it are extremely successful and plugged in.
How the fuck did I become 27 years of age without knowing there is a university called "Colgate"?
You will have great looks from Colgate - great academics, very strong alumni network in banking. It seriously comes down to whether or not you want to be in a frat. If you do, you will have the time of your life. Seriosly the best 4 yrs ever. If not, your life will suck. As soneome who went to colgate, and knows ppl who were not in frats (and weren't athletes) it will suck.
Villanova is complete trash and they will straight scam you
