Columbia MSOR vs Boston MSMF
Hi guys,
So far I'm having to choose between these 2 programs. I initially applied to Columbia MSFE (Financial Engineering), but they redirected me to their MSOR (Operations Research) program which shares the same faculty and many of the same classes/theory. However I'm not sure what the employer perception towards these two different programs are...do they think that MSOR is where the FE rejects end up? and will that knock me out of potential interviews?
I also have an offer for Mathematical Finance at Boston University, which pretty much spells out what I intend to learn.
However there is no denying the value of Columbia's brand name in the job hunt and it definitely gives me better access to being placed in NY.
Would appreciate it if someone could give me some advice pertaining to my dilemma.
Thanks
Columbia brand name is huge. I know someone who graduated from the program and now works in operations at GS. It is not a hot bed for FO recruitment. That is all I know.
Pardon me what what does FO stand for?
"FO" on WSO links up to what it means. It means Front Office which basically means client-facing roles.
Thanks for clarifying

That link explains some of the placement statistics which could be potentially biased since it's based on who replied to their survey and those who don't find jobs are less likely to reply.
However according to this, most of their graduates head into S&T within Finance
Agreed. Columbia is the better brand but I know people who graduated with Columbia MBA degrees that went into operations too.
