Dartmouth vs. Brown
I'm planning to major in Economics at either Brown or Dartmouth in the fall. I was wondering if I could get input on which school to attend solely based on post-grad opportunities in banking and consulting. As for fit, both schools offer different experiences but I'm excited to be a part of either.
I'm leaving this open-ended because I want to listen to any thoughts/advice you might have!
I know this isn't Reddit or College Confidential, but I'm in need of serious advice from people working in these industries.
Still in college myself, but Dartmouth... and I don't even think its that close
May I ask why? Also wondering if the culture is as fratty and problematic as some say it is. I'm an Asian middle-class male, outgoing, and enjoy partying - but not sure if I'm willing to go through the process of joining a frat. Will I still be able to have an enjoyable experience if I don't?
Rushing a fraternity at Dartmouth is very different than rushing at Alabama or Ole Miss. Very, very different
Almost 60% of students are in greek life, and greek life is a lot more diverse, friendly, and even academic than what you may be imagining greek life as. Not to mention I'm sure there are recruiting benefits. I know they have "sober" members at parties who's job it is to make sure things don't get out of control. I only have 2 friends at Dartmouth, but one of them is the exact demographics as you and loves Dartmouth; he is in a fraternity. When I toured Dartmouth they made it very clear... "Greek Life is for everyone" at Dartmouth if you want to get involved
In terms of alumni support as well, there aren't many alumni that support their students more than Dartmouth. Dartmouth on wall street is like a cult, like USC for Real Estate, Stanford for VC, or UT Austin for oil and gas.
Dartmouth is a very very enjoyable school. Both great options though and good luck with your decision process
Thanks for the insight! I really appreciate it. My perception of Dartmouth Greek life was pretty negative before this because of some of the negative publicity surrounding it
The average Dartmouth student is more interested in finance than the average Brown student. And there are more Dartmouth alums on Wall St. than Brown alums. Take those for what they're worth to you.
Ultimately the post-grad opportunities are comparable.
