Did I make a mistake by double majoring?
Going into college, I planned on studying economics. I did well my freshman year and decided to pick up computer science as a second major. Between being on the varsity lacrosse team and these two majors, this year was more difficult for me than I had expected and my GPA has fallen from a 3.6 to a 3.5.
I thought having computer science on my resume would help me stand out and show a strong quantitative background. While I believe that it does, I'm questioning whether it was worth the GPA drop. I think if I never picked up CS I might've been able to get somewhere that round up to a 3.7. Did I make a mistake? Does CS in conjunction with econ make me a more attractive candidate for equity research, investment management, or CRE internships?
3.5+ and you will be fine. I think having a second major is a plus as well, especially doubling with a subject that has more difficult courses than economics or finance. Will also be useful if you ever want to pivot towards SWE or other tech related fields.
